Moroccan Water Mint Tea Recipe
Moroccan mint tea recipe is a symbol of hospitality and culture in Morocco. Traditionally,it’s made with green tea and fresh spearmint, but water mint (Mentha aquatica) offers a unique twist with its refreshing and slightly peppery flavor.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Chinese Gunpowder green tea
- 1 handful of fresh water mint leaves (washed)
- 3-4 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1 liter boiling water
Instructions:
- Prepare the Teapot:
- Add the green tea to a traditional Moroccan teapot (or any heatproof teapot).
- Pour about 1/4 cup of boiling water over the tea to rinse it. Swirl for a few seconds, then discard this water. This step removes the bitterness from the tea.
- Brew the Tea:
- Add the fresh water mint leaves to the teapot.
- Pour the boiling water into the teapot.
- Add the sugar.
- Steep the Tea:
- Place the teapot over medium heat and let the tea steep for 5 minutes.
- Do not stir; let the leaves and sugar naturally infuse.
- Mix the Tea:
- After steeping, pour one glass of tea and return it to the teapot. Repeat this process two or three times. This ensures the tea, sugar, and mint are well mixed.
- Serve the Tea:
- Pour the tea into glasses from a height to create a frothy top layer.
- Garnish with a fresh sprig of water mint in each glass.
Tips:
- Adjust the sugar level according to your preference.
- Serve hot in small, heatproof glasses.
